Colts Frolic in Spring Pastures
Hundreds of people gather every year in Orivarsalaitu to watch the frolic of colts set out to pasture at the end of a long winter. The annual events takes place in the beginning of June. The colts gambol out to their summer pastures in the Haukiniemi section of Suur-Miehikkälä along the shores of the Syväjärvi lake. Orivarsalauti is located along the highway from Pitkäkoski to Suur-Miehikkälä, about three km. from the centre of Suur-Miehikkälä. Tickets are four euros, and children under 15 can watch for free.
