CHURCH OF KYMI

CHURCH OF KYMI

The stone Church of Kymi was inaugurated in 1851. The Empire-style church located on a hill in Karhula was designed based on principal drawings by C.L. Engel. The altarpiece was painted by Berndt Godenhjelm. The vestry of the church houses a glass painting (1964–65) by Tapani Lemminkäinen, describing everyday life beside the river Kymijoki. The large candlesticks on the altar were donated by the workers of the Karhula Glass Factory in 1901.
