ORTHODOX CHURCH OF ST NICHOLAS
ORTHODOX CHURCH OF ST NICHOLAS
The Church of St Nicholas is located in the Isopuisto Park in the centre of Kotka. The Neoclassic church was built in 1799–1801 according to drawings by Jakov Perrin. The church is presently the oldest building in Kotka. The impressive facade is composed of the columns of the three entrances and of the belfry and dome. The icons and several other objects inside the church are very beautiful. One of the most extraordinary icons depicts St Nicholas in Kotkansaari, with a view of the area of the Ruotsinsalmi naval battle behind him.
