Salpa Trail
The Salpa Trail is a 50 km long one-way hiking route in Virolahti and Miehikkälä. The Trail follows roughly the Finnish Defence Line, or Salpa Line, starting from Majaniemi in Virolahti and ending to Lake Syvä Valk-Järvi at the border between the municipalities of Miehikkälä and Ylämaa. On the trail it is possible to get a feel of Finnish military history by visiting the numerous bunkers and other fortifications. There are also two museums along the Salpa Trail; the Virolahti bunker Museum and Salpa Line Museum in Miehikkälä. The hiking route meanders in the middle of typical cultural and natural surroundings of South-East Finland.
