Salpa Trail
The Salpa Trail is 50 km. long, one-way hiking route in Virolahti and Miehikkälä. Portions of the trail follow Finland's wartime line of defence against the Russians, known as the Salpa Line. Along the route you can feel Finland's military history through its dugouts and entrenchments. There are twelve places along the trail to rest or spend the night. Rest spots are equipped with at least an outhouse, composter, campfire grill and woodshed. Some rest stops also have a lean-to or other shelter for the night. The Salpa Trail is unique in that it also offers three saunas that can be reserved. A hiking map of the Salpa Trail can be ordered or purchased from either the Virolahti or the Miehikkälä town halls for 10€ per map plus postal costs.
